The gîte is very beautiful and very peacefully situated in the countryside, surrounded mostly by mountains.
A local contact is available who speaks Dutch, English, French and German.
Interior
Our self-contained gîte sleeps up to four people. It is detached from the main house and is surrounded by a fully enclosed garden in a truly beautiful setting overlooking fertile farmland and woods.
There is a bedroom with a double bed, a fully equipped kitchen/living room with a sofa bed and a luxury bathroom. The accommodation is probably most suitable for two adults and one or two children. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement.
Equipment includes washing machine, dishwasher, oven, microwave, t v and radio, heater and all linen. A baby’s cot is also available.
An English speaking person is always on hand to offer help or advice if needed.
Exterior
The Creuse is an unspoilt region of small traditional stone built farms, rolling hilly landscapes dotted with woods, fields, lakes and small meandering rivers. It is on the edge of the Massive Central and is not a busy tourist area. The house and gîte stand together in 1600 sq of enclosed garden, o, a hill, at an altitude of 630 metres (2000 feet).
From the garden it is possible to walk through fields and woods without meeting anyone.
For culture lovers there are many small towns nearby with Romanesque churches and fascinating little museums featuring local live and customs.
Auzances, our nearest town, is just 6 km away and there you will find everything for your daily needs, supermarket, baker, butcher, chemist etc.
Aubusson (25 mins), Montluçon (45 mins) and Clermont-Ferrand (60 mins) offer exciting city shopping from small boutiques to huge hypermarkets together with restaurants, theatres, art galleries, museums etc.
Secondat itself is a small farming hamlet where my wife and I, our two dogs and several chickens, came to live in 1999. We like to welcome to our gîte people who enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, only want to hear owls hooting at night and awake in the morning to the singing of the birds.
Things to do locally: Swimming, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, mountaineering and horse riding are all available locally or within 30 minutes drive.
Restaurants, food & wine Nearby there are several small, family run, restaurants offering excellent meals and wine at modest prices.
Other remarks We also offer a home made special dish of the day, ’plat dus jour’ for 10 €, including wine/water.
How to get there?
If you do not wish to drive: Ryan Air to Limoges or Clermont-Ferrand / Air France to Clermont-Ferrand / by rail to Auzances via Paris and Montlucon.
Its is essential to have the use of a car for your stay as there is no public transport in the area. Hire cars are readily available at the airports and main towns. 01/04 - 01/11
